To meet growing demand while maintaining uninterrupted service to essential facilities, Hennepin County expanded its Energy Center to increase steam and chilled water capacity for the Government Center, County Jail, the former Metrodome, and the Medical Center. TKDA designed and engineered the expansion, adding a 5,500‑ton steam turbine chiller with a new cooling tower and a 70,000 lb/hr, 250 psig steam boiler. The project also incorporated 24‑inch high‑density polyethylene piping to deliver chilled water efficiently, chosen for its ease of installation, long service life, and cost effectiveness. The upgraded Energy Center now provides reliable, efficient service and long‑term resilience to support critical county operations well into the future.
