When a growing list of aircraft owners requested space at the Waseca Municipal Airport, the City developed new aircraft storage hangars. TKDA’s integrated team provided project formulation, grant administration, design engineering (civil, structural, electrical, mechanical), architecture, construction administration and observation, and project closeout services to help the City accommodate increasing aircraft storage needs. TKDA developed a four-unit premanufactured steel hangar structure that is flexible in the size and number of aircraft that can be accommodated.
To make this project a reality, TKDA worked diligently to maximize funding opportunities and minimize the local share, resulting in the project being fully funded with 90% federal funds, a 5% state match from MnDOT Aeronautics, and a 5% local share. By minimizing the local share, the airport can repay its investment in a shorter time and recognize new hangar lease revenues that are critical to the airport’s operation.
