TKDA’s Bloomington office remodel embodies our ambition and shared values, and we are excited to announce that this collaborative project received the Green / LEED Development Project of the Year at the 2026 Minnesota Real Estate Awards. Presented by REjournals, this award recognizes projects that demonstrate leadership in sustainable design and energy efficiency.

This recognition reinforces the value of investing in spaces that support environmental responsibility and the people who use them every day. As an employee‑owned firm, stewardship is the foundation of what we do. Whether designing infrastructure for our communities, helping businesses and industries thrive, or shaping our own workspace, our work focuses on long-term performance and resiliency.

This project was driven by a commitment to create a healthier, more sustainable workplace for our employees. From thoughtful material selection and improved building performance to spaces that maximize daylight and support employee well-being, this remodel reflects how sustainable and people-centered design work together. Initial choices about where to relocate set our project up for success by considering surrounding density, diverse zoning uses, and access to public transportation.

The office also features over 100 thermostats, digital HVAC controls, and system-wide enhanced commissioning that optimize comfort and energy usage throughout various work environments. Additionally, efforts to reduce water usage and the inclusion of added occupancy sensors automatically manage our water consumption and lighting based on how spaces are used, helping us do our part to reduce wasteful water and energy usage. The incorporation of key LEED innovation and pilot credits soliciting Occupant Comfort feedback and implementing a Comprehensive Composting program also supported our goal to create a positive and conscientious office that our employee owners can be proud of.
