BNSF asked TKDA to develop a database to inventory and rank diesel fuel pipelines at their 49 fixed fueling locomotive facilities. An inspection team composed of a TKDA construction manager, mechanical contractor and non-destructive testing firm visited each fixed fueling facility to verify accuracy of existing information and to collect new data on each pipe segment. Database information includes pipeline length, GPS location, condition, leak detection description, cathodic protection present and materials of construction. In addition, keyed photos were taken to visually document exist conditions. The database allows BNSF to identify segments in need of immediate attention and helps them with future capital planning.
