Marshall Snow Removal Equipment Building

snow removal equipment facility at Southwest Minnesota Regional Airport

Supporting Safe, Reliable Winter Airport Operations

In Southwestern Minnesota, reliable air service depends on an airport’s ability to stay open, even during the region’s harshest winter conditions. Upon completing an airport master plan, the City of Marshall identified a location for future terminal area development. Recognizing that properly storing equipment and materials is essential to maintaining runways and airport property, a Snow Removal Equipment (SRE) building was the first structure constructed on this portion of airport property. TKDA partnered with the City to plan and design the new facility that strengthens winter readiness, improves operational efficiency, and helps ensure safe, continuous airport operations for passengers, businesses, and emergency services across the region.

The SRE Building consists of nearly 7,500 SF of enclosed, heated space and features the following:

  • Three vehicle / equipment bays of varying sizes tailored to accommodate specific fleet vehicles and areas for sand storage and vehicle maintenance
  • An entry vestibule, office and breakroom spaces, mechanical and electrical rooms, two single-occupant restrooms, and a storage mezzanine for maximized use of interior space
  • Accommodations for future expansion for Airfield Rescue and Fire Fighting (ARFF) facilities, should the airport classification and operations deem those services necessary

Designed with long-term community value in mind, the facility consolidates maintenance operations into a single hub while positioning the airport for future growth. Built to remain fully operational during construction and adaptable for future expansion, the project balances efficiency and resilience. By investing in infrastructure that keeps the airport open when it matters most, the City of Marshall is strengthening regional connectivity and supporting economic growth.
