Nokomis-Minnesota River Regional Trail

TKDA delivered a trail project that connected several cities to a regional multi-modal trail system

TKDA provided Three Rivers Park District with engineering services for a challenging 3.6-mile multi-use off-road trail extending from Minneapolis to Bloomington. This federally funded project required many engineering and design services, including the construction of a pedestrian bridge over I-494 and the rehabilitation of the Bloomington Avenue bridge over Crosstown TH-62.

After a full evaluation of the entire trail connection and the Bloomington Avenue bridge TKDA determined that rehabilitating and modifying the existing bridge was the most economical solution for accommodating the trail. When designing the pedestrian bridge over I-494 TKDA satisfied geometrical constraints and minimized impacts to the busy freeway by implementing a 121-foot single-span prefabricated steel truss.

By coordinating with a large number of local, regional and state agencies TKDA delivered a fully functional regional trail meeting the needs of area pedestrians without impacting traffic, residents or local businesses.
