In order to increase production of iron ore concentrate a confidential mining client needed to construct a new fine grained iron ore processing facility located on the west end of Minnesota’s Iron Range. TKDA completed final engineering for significant portions of the new facility that will produce 2M tons per year of iron ore concentrate.
The project was executed on an extremely accelerated schedule, with conceptual design through initial production completed in approximately one year. TKDA met the schedule challenges by assigning multiple teams to work concurrently on the various buildings. From concept through final design and construction TKDA collaborated closely with the owner/operator. The large-scale project included multiple design pieces, including a truck dump building, grizzly building, primary screen building, pump house, vacuum pump building, multiple conveyor galleries, multiple thickeners, multiple screening and filter towers inside the concentrator, concentrate storage bunker and a truck loadout facility.
