Baytown Township is located in Washington County, Minnesota. The cities of Bayport, Lake Elmo and Oak Park Heights border the town. The Township is predominately made up of residential and agricultural properties, but its close proximity to the Twin Cities has led to an increase in residential development over the years. Along with nearly 1,900 residents, the township is also home to the Washington County Fairgrounds and the Lake Elmo general aviation airport.
TKDA provides Baytown Township both planning and engineering services. As the Town Planner for the community, TKDA reviews plans for all development projects to endure new construction and lot splits so that subdivisions meet local ordinances. The TKDA team collaborates with building inspectors, watershed organizations and other public agencies to uphold land use requirements. Other services provided include reviewing land use and zoning applications, preliminary and final plats, conditional and special use permits and the development and updating of codes and ordinances. TKDA facilitated the completion of the 2040 Comprehensive Plan in 2018 to guide future decision-making for the community, while also meeting the requirements of the Metropolitan Land Planning Act. This process involved coordination with Washington County to complete a major update to the township’s land use and zoning map in order to implement the comprehensive plan.
