Ely Municipal Airport opened its newly reconstructed Runway 12/30 in August 2015. The new 5,600-foot by 100-foot paved and lighted runway replaced an aging runway pavement with an inadequate electrical distribution system. TKDA provided the engineering and surveying services necessary to complete the required electrical system upgrades for this $4.1M Runway 12/30 Reconstruction and Electrical Distribution project.
To provide more efficient lighting, TKDA removed and replaced the medium-intensity runway edge lighting system and retrofitted all airfield taxiway and runway signage to LED fixtures. The airport construction project also included the installation of 8,200 lineal feet of electrical duct bank, new counterpoise system and the construction of a 320 SF electrical distribution building to serve the airfield lighting and navigational aides.
