As design lead for all elements of the I-35W and 4th Street ramp design-build, TKDA developed cost-effective solutions for the project’s retaining walls, noise walls, paving, roadway hydraulics, construction staging, maintenance of traffic and design quality control.
TKDA’s design solutions satisfied MnDOT’s need to construct the proposed 4th Street South ramp without negatively impacting adjacent bridges or nearby slopes. TKDA addressed MnDOT’s concerns with an alternative solution that shifted the alignment for the ramp and retaining wall. To accommodate this shift, TKDA recognized the need to reconstruct Pier 4 of Bridge 27880, allowing for the required clearance and improvement in integrity and durability.
TKDA’s innovative solutions eliminated the need for a second retaining wall while also reducing the project’s construction time, cost and adverse impacts to public traffic.
