TKDA expanded energy center to provide steam and chilled water to government facilities
Hennepin County needed a new solution to provide steam and chilled water to the Hennepin County Government Center and the County Jail. With the help of TKDA, the existing Hennepin County Energy Center was expanded to provide additional resources to these facilities.
To achieve this goal while continuing to serve the former Hubert H. Humphrey Metrodome and the Hennepin County Medical Center, TKDA added a new 5,500-ton steam turbine chiller with corresponding cooling tower and 70,000 lb/hr 250-psig steam boiler. Chilled water is provided to the buildings by 24-inch diameter high density polyethylene plastic piping chosen for its ease of installation, long life and cost effectiveness.
