TKDA worked with Amtrak to upgrade the Seattle King Street Coach Yard Maintenance Facility. The multiphase project was designed to improve the capacity, efficiency and working conditions of the shops.
Working with our affiliate Cedar Street Architecture, Phase I and Phase II of the project were completed utilizing a Design-Build project delivery method. TKDA was selected to complete the programming and develop a scope and concept layout for the buildings taking design to the 30% completion level. Phase I included construction of an enclosed structure over two tracks large enough to service an entire Amtrak Cascades indoors. Phase II included a new three-story Warehouse and Administrative & Health/Welfare facility. In 2011, TKDA was selected for Phases III and IV of the facilities upgrade which included the North and South S&I facilities, locomotive shop facility and pedestrian bridge and tower.
