TKDA Led Innovative Maintenance of Traffic Design

TKDA was the lead designer for the Shafer Design-Build Team hired by the Minnesota Department of Transportation (MnDOT) to complete this $60.5M project located at the northern junction of interstates I-35W and I-35E. The 5.5-mile project includes segments of both unbonded concrete overlay and full-depth pavement reconstruction, drainage improvements, the reconstruction of four bridges, and the reconfiguration of two interchanges, including the addition of a Diverging Diamond Interchange.

TKDA led the development of an innovative, cost-effective Maintenance of Traffic design that exceeds MnDOT’s lane configuration requirements. This design increased safety for the workers and the traveling public and minimized traffic delays on these high-volume corridors.
