Saint Paul Public Schools

Countless public schools were constructed in the post-war population surges of the 1920s and 1950s. Throughout those years, TKDA designed many primary and secondary schools for the region. As these facilities have aged, school districts now look to TKDA for help in assessing, improving, and expanding this vital infrastructure. For the last 30 years, our architects and engineers have worked closely with Saint Paul Public Schools (SPPS) to bring their facilities into code compliance, making them more energy-efficient, and modernizing their systems, controls, and learning spaces. Representative projects include:

  • Energy audits
  • Boiler, air handling unit, and HVAC equipment replacements
  • Steam to hot water system conversions
  • Electrical distribution upgrades and backup generator installations
  • Data rooms and technology upgrades
  • Domestic water system and plumbing replacements, sewer separations
  • Fire protection upgrades
  • Indoor air quality improvements and environmental safety corrections
  • Pool upgrades and dehumidification

In addition to these mechanical and electrical upgrades, TKDA also provides designs for classroom, office, and entry renovations and additions; envelope, window, and roof replacements; accessibility, circulation, and security upgrades; and parking, site, and stormwater improvements. After decades of continuous SPPS work, TKDA has become a trusted service provider. We understand their systems, expectations, and processes, and share their commitment to provide safe and effective learning environments for our children.
