Due to aging conditions, over 7,000 feet of pipe segments needed rehabilitation in the Duluth, Minnesota area. TKDA assisted the Western Lake Superior Sanitary District (WLSSD) with the evaluation, planning and design associated with the rehabilitation of the numerous pipe segments on portions of five interceptors throughout the region.
TKDA consulted with WLSSD staff and evaluated existing CCTV inspection videos, record drawings and GIS data to determine the most cost-effective and least interruptive methods of rehabilitation for each pipe segment. During the determination TKDA prioritized recommended improvements to fit within WLSSD’s project budget and prepared bid documents accordingly. During the bidding period the City found the buried pipe to be replaced was not in the anticipated location. TKDA worked with City staff to revise the bid documents and issue an addendum without delaying the scheduled bid opening.
