TKDA led the City of Winona through the planning, bidding documents, and airport construction phases of a new 4,000 SF Snow Removal Equipment building at the Winona Regional Airport. The building is designed for expansion, and its primary use is for the storage of field maintenance equipment. Additional spaces within the structure consist of a small shop/office area, electrical/mechanical room, and individual restrooms accessed from the exterior for transient pilots. To maximize the building’s volume created by the high bay overhead doors, the team created a storage mezzanine over the restrooms and shop/office space for material and plow blade storage. To reduce energy needs for the facility, the team integrated continuous translucent wall panels for daylighting, installed occupancy sensors throughout, provided instantaneous water heater, and LED lighting. Materials selected throughout the facility, such as precast concrete sandwich panel walls, are designed for a 50-year lifespan to help the City lower long-term maintenance costs. The project includes the related site, utilities, and pavement improvements as well.
