With over 40 years of high enrollment in the transportation and industry related programs at Dakota County Technical College, the “wear and tear” on the program spaces had taken a toll and were in need of significant upgrades.
TKDA completed the design for a multi-phased $15M 110,000 SF renovation and addition project. Phase I included the renovation of the Automotive Shops and Labs, Auto Body Shop and the construction of a new Welding Lab. Phase II included the renovation of the Heavy Construction Equipment and Heavy Duty Truck Shops and Labs, a 3,000 SF addition to the Heavy Duty Truck Shop and renovation of the Student Commons. Both phases included the construction of new Classrooms, Offices and major upgrades to the HVAC and electrical infrastructure. The project resulted in vibrant student learning and gathering spaces, improved teaching technologies, improved wayfinding and reduced the College’s deferred maintenance backlog by $6.5M.
