A 500,000 SF iron ore concentrator building in Michigan’s Upper Peninsula needed a new ventilation system to improve efficiency and meet MSHA standards. TKDA designed a complete ventilation system replacement/upgrade that provides 1.8M CFM of directed ventilation air into the building, as well as 1.6M CFM of powered exhaust.
TKDA’s design included multiple air changes per hour. To temper Northern Michigan’s legendary cold, TKDA designed a hot water/glycol piping and heat exchanger system for the 24-hour-a-day, 365-days-a-year operation outside air handlers. The new ventilation system allows for fully functional and autonomous operation, requiring only weekly inspections and normal preventative maintenance.
