The construction of an interchange at TH 13 and TH 101 in Savage improved safety and mobility by replacing the former at-grade signalized T-intersection. The new interchange allows free-flowing traffic and improved access to TH 101 while more than doubling the intersection’s current capacity. The project consisted of grading, surfacing, ponds, signals, lighting, signing, retaining walls and bridge construction. Additional major responsibilities included environmental coordination, public relations and utility coordination. A primary goal was protecting Eagle Creek located within the project limits. Eagle Creek is a MnDNR Public Water and a designated trout stream. It has one of the few self-sustaining brown trout populations in the metro area. TKDA performed bridge and retaining wall design as a subconsultant to Alliant Engineering for this design-build project with Ames Construction as the contractor.
