The St. Peter Minnesota National Guard Armory serves 120-140 National Guard citizen-soldiers on a training weekend and hosts events throughout the year. The facility is a 16,900 SF single-story building, slab-on-grade, masonry CMU/brick walls, and steel roof structure. The armory also has a heavy timber roof structure with tectum decking over the drill hall and an EPDM membrane roof throughout. The facility needed renovations due to deferred maintenance, system life-cycle expiration, building code advances, and evolving training needs. The building’s original layout and space adjacencies no longer met the Guard’s operational needs. A detailed space study and a predesign charrette addressed shortfalls, including a fully-functional women’s locker room, accessible plumbing facilities, site and building ATFP improvements, and mechanical and electrical upgrades throughout.
