TKDA provided design and construction oversight for the Runway 17 Deicing Pad which was sized to accommodate simultaneous deicing of up to seven narrow body aircraft. The pad was located on a challenging site between three active runways and their taxiways. The pad is equipped with an underground glycol collection system that captures all pad runoff during the deicing season and diverts it to a glycol recovery facility. For the remainder of the year runoff is diverted directly to the storm sewer.
In addition to the deicing pad, work on the project included a snow storage pad with snow melter, a service station for vehicle fueling and deicing truck loading and a service road for site access.
