As part of a major development project, the Southwest Minnesota Regional Airport in Marshall, Minnesota needed to extend Runway 12/30. TKDA provided engineering services to assist with this runway expansion.
Primary Runway 12/30 was extended from 5,010 feet to 7,220 feet. Included in this project were land acquisition, relocation of township roadways and earthwork for the extended runway, taxiway and associated safety areas. Additional surface and subsurface drainage improvements were also included in this phase. In 2008, TKDA completed paving and lighting of the extended runway and taxiway with a high-performance bituminous mixture. The existing runway and taxiway were paved with a bituminous overlay to support the anticipated larger aircraft.
