TKDA provided design engineering services for the replacement of Bridge 90466 (New Bridge 27) over TH 65 (Central Avenue). The new two-track railroad bridge was designed to 2011 AREMA design specifications using an E-80 live load or 100 Kip alternate load with impact. The single-span structure is 87 feet long, 36 feet wide and consists of two 11’-6” deep plate girders.
The project improved the vertical clearance over TH 65 and the pedestrian facilities along TH 65 while meeting the requirements of the BNSF Railway Company. The success of the project required effective and timely distribution of information, early identification of issues and close coordination with BNSF, governing agencies and other affected parties. TKDA led the design team, in addition to overall project management and design, oversaw subconsultants’ work on the geometric layout, water resources engineering, utility coordination and roadway design plans.
