In order to improve security and minimize the threat of vehicle intrusion, MSP launched the Perimeter Fence Security Improvements Program. This three-year project included the installation of new crash-rated security gates and security cable within portions of an existing perimeter fence line. TKDA completed preliminary design, final design and construction engineering services for this program.
The program consisted of installing 122,700 feet of wire rope within the existing perimeter fence. Two existing automatic cantilever slide gates and four perimeter swing gates were replaced with crash-rated cantilever slide gates. TKDA worked closely with the airport police and fire departments to define the scope of work that met project objectives without impeding emergency response procedures. Airport tenants were also involved in the design phase to define work times and schedules to minimize impacts to their operations during construction.
