Dakota County Technical College needed major renovations to their visitor lobby and student services area. TKDA’s team turned the existing area into a modern space that better serves the needs of a diverse student population.
TKDA redesigned the college’s north main entrance to create a more welcoming entrance space and lobby for students and visitors. The renovation consolidated the student admissions, administration and financial aid functions into one open, inviting Student Services Area that provides a one-stop-shop for current and prospective students, as well as alumni. New student conveniences include a lounge/meeting area and computer terminal kiosks for class selection and registration. Transparent and translucent materials allow natural light into the work area and the curved reception counter benefits staff interaction with students. The remodel directly ties into an exterior redesign of the new north main public and visitor entry, also recently completed by TKDA. As part of the college’s participation in the American College and University Presidents’ Climate Commitment, this project incorporates numerous sustainable design features and materials.
