When the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources required the Honeywell Stinson Facility to discontinue use of well water for comfort cooling, TKDA designed a new chiller plant to serve the facility.
The chillers were pre-purchased in order to compress the schedule, better control the equipment purchased and allow the building to be designed around the equipment. Two 1000-ton Trane centrifugal chillers were installed in the building, and three 400-ton air-cooled chillers were installed outside in the equipment yard. The cooling towers and fluid coolers were also located in the yard. TKDA’s design routed water from the chiller plant to the penthouses above the roof on structural supports to provide chilled water as required.
