Lake Elmo Public Works Facility

TKDA assisted Lake Elmo with the design and construction of a new 19,000 SF Public Works Facility. TKDA services included site selection, programming, design development, construction document preparation, and assistance during bidding and construction. The design provides space for vehicle storage and maintenance, wash bay, offices, break/training room, restrooms/ lockers, and parts storage. TKDA decided to use a red barn motif for the design to keep the aesthetic of an agricultural image. A high priority was economical construction, which was achieved by utilizing a pre-engineered metal building. Other aspects of the design include a light-duty maintenance area, a mezzanine above the vehicle storage for additional storage space, and a drive-through wash bay that allows vehicles to be washed upon entrance and then proceed directly to the vehicle storage area. The Public Works Facility also has berms and landscaping to screen the storage yard from the residential neighborhoods and an on-site septic system. Stormwater management was provided by three ponding basins with a combined capacity of 2.5 acre-feet.
