To meet increasing needs and prepare for future expansion of commercial air service, the Southwest Minnesota Regional Airport needed to develop a new building area. TKDA assisted with the planning and development of the East Building Area.
After performing Environmental Assessments and updating the Airport Layout Plan, TKDA provided engineering services to help complete the first phase of the project. The project included a 2,000-foot looped access road, a 115-foot bridge, a 90,000 SF expansion of the airfield’s concrete apron, and a 128,00 SF expansion of the airfields bituminous taxiways. TKDA also performed site preparation for 750,000 SF of new building area and made additions and revisions to runway and taxiway lighting. Future uses of the developed area will include corporate aircraft hangars, a commercial service terminal building, auto parking, airport maintenance facility` and Aircraft Rescue and Firefighting (ARFF) facility.
