To meet the needs of travelers, the Duluth International Airport needed a 100,000 SF terminal that could accommodate international traffic. TKDA collaborated with Reynolds, Smith and Hills of Jacksonville, Florida on the design of the terminal.
During the Schematic Design Phase, TKDA advised on unique local site conditions, appropriate exterior material selection and overall design approach. During final design and construction, TKDA provided Interior Design and Construction Administration services. TKDA’s interior building design features natural characteristics of northern Minnesota and a finish palette reflecting the materials and colors of the surrounding region. The building tone reflects warmer hues to offset the area’s cooler climate and creates a tranquil, yet captivating, atmosphere for visitors.
