To better serve government employees and the community as a whole, Douglas County wanted a joint city-county complex to house a variety of facilities and offices. TKDA provided architecture services for the Douglas County Government Center, a $45M facility serving as the county court, offices and law enforcement for the City of Superior and Douglas County, Wisconsin.
TKDA’s design included secure court facilities, an underground emergency government/communications center and a striking atrium linking the new complex to the adjacent county courthouse. The building also contains offices, the police and sheriff departments, meeting rooms and a jail. Built around the atrium the building provides an attractive place for visitors and a user-friendly work environment for City and County employees. The building’s exterior made of energy-efficient precast concrete panels complements the appearance.
