The “Green Pipes” project was designed to meet the expanding energy needs of Rochester Community and Technical College. The Project was the beginning of a multi-phase effort to convert several campus buildings from electric heating and cooling to a renewable energy source. TKDA completed the design and construction administration of the District Energy System East Phases 1 and 2 to make this project a success.
The steam pipe runs over 2 miles from the Olmsted County Waste-To-Energy facility to the campus of Rochester Community and Technical College (RCTC). TKDA worked with the college to analyze and design a system that would reduce their reliance on fossil fuels and decrease their carbon footprint. TKDA was responsible for the preliminary design, routing, final design and construction administration of the project. The project will also meet the energy needs of a future commercial industrial park.
