To improve efficiency and reduce emissions, the Syl Laskin Energy Center was repurposed from a coal-fired generating plant to a peaking natural gas plant. TKDA completed preliminary engineering studies with cost/benefit analysis and recommendations for HVAC, instrument compressed air and layup of coal, fuel oil, ash handling and wet scrubber systems.
TKDA also completed site survey, equipment procurement bid packages and final engineering design on multiple construction bid packages. During plant outage, the owner elected to execute a major balance of plant DCS migration. This expanded TKDA’s scope of work to assist in planning and design including: DCS architecture and migration strategy, control wiring diagrams, I/O database, logic review and presence at FAT (Factory Acceptance Testing) attendance.
