This project provided for expansion of Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport’s existing Terminal 2 Apron to accommodate six future aircraft gate positions to serve the expansion of the facility. Project work included the removal of existing parking lot pavements as well as the installation of storm sewer and glycol collection piping, electrical duct banks, airfield lighting and signing, aircraft fuel pits, and the construction of approximately 45,000 square yards of concrete apron pavement. The keys to the success of this project were early coordination with project stakeholders, including airport development staff, the airport fire department, and multiple airport consulting partners; detailed plans and specifications that outlined traffic control requirements and construction schedules; and onsite construction management efforts to coordinate airfield operations.
