The new Piedmont Elementary School opened in the fall of 2011 to rave reviews of students, teachers, administrators and parents. This new, state-of-the-art, 91,000-square-foot facility replaced two aging elementary schools and serves 500-550 K-5 students. Features of the new school include two-story brick building with separate bus and car drop off for safety of students and staff; connecting gymnasium and cafeteria to facilitate large school and community events; modern classroom cluster design concept; central Media Center connected to classroom clusters; computer lab; Special Educations classrooms; full on-site commercial kitchen; playgrounds and play field; large windows maximizing daylighting; pervious paving for storm water management. TKDA partnered with Wold Architects and Engineers on the design which was completed to LEED Silver certification standards per Duluth Public School’s Long Range Facility Plan.
