The academic building expansion at the Fond du Lac Tribal and Community Collge added science laboratories for the environmental sciences, chemistry and physics programs; a new fine arts classroom; student services offices and union; bookstore; administrative and faculty offices; a Center for Academic Achievement; and other academic classrooms. New construction totals 35,850 GSF, and 1,800 GSF of existing space was remodeled. The existing ring road was extended completely around the site and 60 parking spaces were added. The academic expansion is designed to increase American Indian and non-Indian college student enrollments from Minnesota and the Upper Midwest. The college’s buildings and grounds have been carefully designed to express the “union of cultures,” both Indian and non-Indian, in the region. Design for the two-story expansion reinforces the original design of the academic building, which is in the form of the sacred Thunderbird.
