In making way for a cleaner energy future, an end of an era came with the demolition of Xcel Energy’s 84 year-old coal-fired High Bridge Generating Plant. Demolition of the plant is part of Xcel Energy’s voluntary Metro Emission Reduction Project (MERP). The Facility, located adjacent to the Mississippi River, encompassed the main generating plant and its 570 foot tall stack, over 30 ancillary buildings, railyard, coal storage, barge unloading dock, cooling water, intake screen house and discharge tunnels, and other supporting utilities and infrastructures.
