The Perimeter Fence Security Improvements program at the Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport was a multi-year program to install new crash-rated security gates and security cable within portions of the existing perimeter fence line to minimize the threat of vehicle intrusions. The program consisted of wire rope installation within 11 miles of perimeter fence, automatic cantilever slide gate replacement, security camera installation, and development of secured construction access gates. TKDA worked closely with the Owner to develop a new standard gate design that supports the added weight of the security measures, while maintaining a maximum 18-foot gate opening and reducing maintenance time and costs. TKDA also worked closely with the client, airport police, fire department, and tenants to define the scope of work that met project objectives without impeding emergency response procedures or airfield operations during and following construction.
