Mn/DOT commissioned TKDA to provide final design services for the reconstruction of TH 12. The project involved the construction of 3.2 miles of roadway, designed as a ‘Super-Two’ highway on new alignment. The highway realignment required the relocation of 3.2 miles of BNSF railroad tracks. Coordination with the BNSF was required throughout the project. TKDA also worked closely with the Mn/DOT Right-of-Way Unit to coordinate right-of-way takings and measures to minimize property impacts. The project included three roadway and three pedestrian bridges, storm sewers, two rate control ponds, five water quality/rate control ponds, off-site wetland mitigation areas, 8,500 lineal feet of retaining walls, and 15,000 feet of noise walls.
