CSAH 116 (Bunker Lake Boulevard) is a minor arterial reliever roadway that links the Cities of Ramsey, Anoka, Andover, and Ham Lake to one another. CSAH 116 is one of the few continuous east-west routes in the county. It also happens to act as a reliever to TH 10, which experiences significant congestion during the peak periods. Therefore, safe mobility on this corridor is of paramount importance to the county and its partners.
The Anoka County Highway Department applied for and received funding for the indicated expansion of CSAH 116 between Geranium Street and CSAH 57 (Sunfish Lake Boulevard). The application that was put together for the Metropolitan Council regional solicitation indicated that a four-lane facility was needed to serve future traffic demand in the area. The application also included a number of access reductions (as identified in the CSAH 116 Access Management Study), identified a potential traffic signal at the intersection with CSAH 57, and included a trail on the north side of the highway.
The project area stretches from the east where CSAH 116 is four lanes, near its intersection with Germanium Street NW, to Basalt Street NW. West of CSAH 57, Bunker Lake Boulevard will taper to two lanes, with the project area ending near the intersection of Basalt Street NW.
